On Sunday 3rd August, 4 members of Berkhamsted Bowmen attended the Bedfordshire County Open Championships, held at Ampthill. Berkhamsted Bowmens Chairman, Clive Haywood is also the Hertfordshire Archery Association President and was the Judge presiding at the Bedfordshire event. On an extremely hot day, with very little wind, Barbara Anscombe was the 1st Lady Recurve Visitor shooting a Hereford round, (12 dozen arrows at 80 yards, 60 yards and 50 yards). Barry Anscombe, who was shooting a York round (at distances of 100 yards, 80 yards and 60 yards), was the 2nd Gent Compound Visitor. The event also included a county match between Bedfordshire and Hertfordshire archers. Barbara, Barry and Ray Choy had been selected to shoot in the Hertfordshire County teams. On the day the Recurve team won by over 200 points, but Bedfordshire won the Compound team match by 150 points. |
